Original used collection box from Winterhulp Nederland (WHN) with original lock (with key) and money from the war period. The box contains a 2,5 guilder note and a number of zinc war cents from 1942. A beautiful item for the display case!

On October 22, 1940, the Netherlands Winter Aid Foundation (WHN) was founded on the initiative of A. Seyss-Inquart. This foundation was modeled on the German example of the German 'Winterhilfe' (WHW) and was led by C. Piek. In June 1942, Piek was replaced by NSB member FW van Vloten. During the four years of its existence, the foundation managed to raise approximately 30 million guilders through collections, lotteries, voluntary donations and contributions from companies. A significant part of these funds was channeled to the Dutch People's Service, which was charged with spending them.

Soon after its creation, Winter Aid was seen by the Dutch population as a propaganda tool of the German occupier, especially due to the fact that NSB members in uniform were involved in the collections. This led to a significant drop in revenue from collections. Finally, on 'Mad Tuesday' (September 5, 1944), the Winter Aid organization collapsed completely.
