Pin DLV – Ballontaufe u. Verfolgung Stuttgart 1935

Rare pin on the occasion of the event of the Deutscher Luftsport Verband (DLV) Ballontaufe u. Verfolgung Stuttgart 1935.

The Deutscher Luftsport Verband (DLV), was an organization founded in 1933, shortly after the Nazis took power in Germany. The DLV was set up as an umbrella organization that oversaw and coordinated various branches of air sports and aviation activities in Germany.

The DLV served as a way for the Nazis to promote the German aviation industry and support military aviation preparations in a camouflaged manner, as the provisions of the Treaty of Versailles prohibited Germany from having an air force. Under the guise of civil air sports and recreational activities, air force-related training could be organized and future pilots could be recruited.

In 1937, the DLV was transformed into the National Socialist Flying Corps (NSFK), which was a more openly military organization.
