Erdkampfabzeichen der Luftwaffe – Arno Wallpach Salzburg

Beautifully cast Erdkampfabzeichen der Luftwaffe by the maker Arno Wallpach from Salzburg (AWS) in beautiful condition.

The Erdkampfabzeichen der Luftwaffe was an award given to members of the Luftwaffe for participation in ground combat or ground-related operations. It was instituted on March 31, 1942 by Hermann Göring, the Commander-in-Chief of the Luftwaffe.

To qualify for the Erdkampfabzeichen der Luftwaffe, an individual had to meet one of the following criteria:

1. Participation in Ground Combat: The most common way to earn the badge was through active participation in ground combat. This included combat where the Luftwaffe supported ground forces, protected airborne troops, operated anti-aircraft guns during combat, or participated in anti-partisan operations on the ground.

2. Ground Combat Wounds: If a member of the Luftwaffe was injured during ground combat, they were eligible for the badge, even if they did not actively participate in the fighting.

3. Special Achievements: Sometimes individuals were awarded the badge for special achievements or service during ground-related operations, such as leading successful operations or performing heroic acts.

This badge was intended to recognize and reward the Luftwaffe's involvement in ground operations, an aspect often overlooked due to the more familiar air warfare.
