Infanterie Sturmabzeichen (ISA) by the maker E. Ferdinand Wiedmann from Frankfurt/Main with the marking on the back.

The Infanterie Sturmabzeichen was established on December 20, 1939 by the Oberstbefehlshaber des Heeres, Generalfeldmarschall von Brauchitsch and could be awarded to members of non-motorized infantry units and units of the Gebirgsjäger. The insignia was worn on the left chest.

The design for this insignia was by the Berlin company CE Juncker. The badge is a silver plated zinc plate and shows a carbine with bayonet in an oval wreath of oak leaves. The emblem of the Wehrmacht, an eagle with a swastika, is placed on the top part of the wreath.

To receive this insignia, an infantryman with a weapon in his hand had to have been involved in three attacks after January 1940, and on three different days in the front line, in battles that broke through the enemy line.
Successful reconnaissance and violent counterattacks were counted as "attacks" if they led to hand-to-hand combat with the enemy. The destruction of tanks by individual soldiers also counted towards this award.
