Beautiful Verwundetenabzeichen in Schwarz, marked L/11 (Wilhelm Deumer – Lüdenscheid) on the back in the original LDO (Leistungsgemeinschaft der Deutschen Ordenshersteller) box. The set is in absolute mint condition and almost unmatchable.

The Verwundetenabzeichen 1939, instituted by Hitler on September 1, 1939, was awarded to soldiers who were injured. This award became the most awarded award, as it was only awarded after blood loss on the battlefield. This distinction could only be awarded if body parts were frozen.

The medal came in three variants: black, silver and gold. Initially it was awarded only to military personnel, but from March 1943 it was also awarded to civilians injured during aerial bombardments. This was due to the increasing number of heavy Allied air raids, so it was felt appropriate to recognize the growing number of civilian casualties with this award.
