Beautiful Iron Cross 2nd class 1939 in the so-called "Schinkelform" awarded to the maker Paul Meybauer.
When the EK2 was reintroduced in 1939, Hitler wanted to enlarge it slightly and make the overall shape slightly larger. Many of the original makers of the Iron Cross continued to use older stocks or older dies for frames to make the new 1939 versions, which were smaller and finer than typical 1939 crosses. LDO regulations eventually forced the license makers to switch to the wider frame. This is called the so-called “Schinkelform” or Schinkel variant and these are rarer than the normal 1939 variants.
