The “Mutterkreuz” (Mother Cross) was an award established to honor and reward mothers for their contribution to increasing the population of the Third Reich. It was a propagandistic acknowledgment of women's role as future mothers and their important role in perpetuating the "Aryan race" according to Nazi ideology.

The Mother Cross had three classes distinguished by the color of the pendant:

1. Bronze Mother Cross: For having four or five children.
2. Silver Mother Cross: For having six or seven children.
3. Golden Mother Cross: For having eight or more children.

The Mother Cross was intended as a way to promote the ideal of the German mother and her role in the Nazi state project. It was a clear illustration of Nazi propaganda aimed at promoting the "Aryan race" and glorifying women's traditional role as mothers and caregivers.
