British Army Durham Light Infantry DLI Regiment Cap Badge

The Durham Light Infantry (DLI) regiment was an infantry regiment of the British Army that existed from 1881 to 1968. The Durham Light Infantry was formed in 1881 as part of the Childers Reforms, which amalgamated several British Army regiments. The regiment was named “Light Infantry” because of its light and fast-moving infantry units, which were designed for rapid maneuvers and flexibility on the battlefield.

First World War
During the First World War (1914-1918) the Durham Light Infantry regiment fought on several fronts, including the Battle of the Somme, the Battle of Passchendaele, and the Battle of Arras.
The regiment earned numerous awards and Battle Honors for their bravery and determination in these bloody battles.

WWII
During World War II (1939-1945) the regiment served in North Africa, Italy, Northwestern Europe and other theaters of operation.
The DLI took part in important battles such as the Battle of El Alamein, the Battle of Monte Cassino, and the Battle of Arnhem.
