Iron Cross 2nd Class 1939 – Deumer L/11 – in LDO box

Very nice iron cross 2nd class 1939 marked in the ring with L/11 in the original LDO box. A very beautiful and difficult to find set by the maker Wilhelm Deumer from Lüdenscheid.

The Iron Cross 2nd Class 1939 was instituted on September 1, 1939, the day Germany invaded Poland and the war began.

This cross was awarded for courage and bravery on the battlefield, and it was intended for both military personnel and civilians who distinguished themselves by extraordinary acts or bravery during combat situations. The criteria for receiving this award were broad, and it could be awarded to individuals from all ranks and branches of the German military.

Many German soldiers were awarded the Iron Cross 2nd Class for their involvement in the early military campaigns of World War II, particularly during the Blitzkrieg in Poland in 1939 and the subsequent invasions of other European countries. It was one of the most common awards in the German army during the war, with a total of around 3 million awarded.
