Very nice set with a worn Kuban shield that has been removed from the uniform, the Besitzzeugnis dated October 1, 1944, a kind of diary, a regimental photo, a kind of diary, a book and Feldpost from the years 1941 to 1945 and a letter from 1946 ( approx. 50 letters/cards), in short, a nice set to research!

In September 1943, at the initiative of Adolf Hitler, the Kuban Shield was established to recognize the defenders of the Kuban bridgehead, who had held out since February 1, 1943. This bridgehead played a crucial role in Hitler's strategy, not only as a route for the withdrawal of troops to Crimea, but also as a potential base for a future offensive towards the Caucasus. The defense line stretched from the Northern Sea of Azov to the Russian naval port city of Noworossijsk.

The main defensive battles took place in Lagoons in the north, Krymskaya in the center and Noworossijsk in the south. The Kuban Shield was awarded on behalf of Generalfeldmarschall Ewald von Kleist, and a standard award document (Besitzzeugnis) was attached. The award ceremony was also noted in the Soldbuch (personal soldier's booklet). The shield had to be worn permanently on the left sleeve, and therefore multiple copies could be issued to the recipient. If the recipient possessed multiple shield decorations, they could be worn with 5 mm space between each other.

The criteria for receiving this award for the Wehrmacht were:

– At least 60 days of service within the Kuban beachhead.
– Participation in one of the important defense battles.
– Injury within the Kuban bridgehead.
