U-Boat Front Spange Schwerin & Sohn 2nd pattern

Very difficult to find zinc U-Boat front spange with the text “Entwurf Peekhaus” and “Ausf. Schwerin Berlin68”. This concerns the so-called 2nd pattern/version of the company Schwerin & Sohn from Berlin.
It is impossible to tell the original color of the buckle because there are silver-colored pieces on the back, but we assume it is bronze. The clasp has been repaired, but the needle is original (hence this price).

The U-boat Frontspange, also known as the U-boat Combat Clasp or U-boat Front Clasp, was a German decoration awarded to crew members of German submarines (U-boats) who served during World War II and were involved in hostile actions at sea. This award was intended to recognize and reward the courage and service of U-boat crews.

The criteria for receiving the U-boat Frontspange were as follows:

1. Service on a U-boat during hostile operations. To receive the award, a crew member had to actually serve on a U-boat during combat missions in enemy territory, such as patrols, convoy attacks or other maritime operations.

2. For each completed patrol or specific achievement. Crews could obtain this award for each completed patrol, specific action or merit noted in their U-boat cruise record.

The U-boat Frontspange itself was a metal insignia worn on the crew members' uniforms. It showed a stylized U-boat with waves underneath, and it was often worn on the breast pocket of the uniform.

The design and award criteria for the U-boat Frontspange varied during the war and depended on the number of patrols and the performance of the crew member. This award was a way to recognize the bravery and dedication of U-boat crews, who often carried out dangerous and demanding operations at sea during World War II.
